OFD Life Sciences started as a pioneer in freeze-drying applications, expanding its expertise to serve a range of unique industries.
Over the decades, we have developed advanced solutions for medical devices, supplement ingredients, combination products, and APIs, supporting clients from early-stage R&D to full-scale commercialization.
1986
Plant 3 built to host “Advanced Specialities” group to focus on lyophilization of large molecules.
1986
Initiated in-house fermentation to identify unique stabilization variables for numerous bacterial strains.
1991
Phase 1 pharma-grade processing of experimental API cocktail for AIDS, setting OFD in motion towards pharma cGMP processing and expansion into the biopharma market segment.
1993
OFD creates Quick Dissolving Tablet for the leading brand of extra strength analgesic. Company acquisition led to the elimination of the project but resulted in a QDT patent for OFD.
1996
OFD develops and manufactures oral patch for treatment of canker sores for publicly-held biopharmaceutical company.
2005
Collaborated on lyophilized blood platelet product to extend shelf life and halt internal hemorrhaging in battlefield or trauma situations.
2006
OFD registers, submits Drug Master File and completes FDA inspection for cGMP facility in preparation for commercial processing of first API.
2018
OFD oral quick-dissolve technology used to verify oral measle vaccine in scale-up of placebo and surrogate vaccine in pre-clinical trials.
2020
OFD becomes largest N.American freeze-dryer of probiotics by expanding capacity with a new facility in Rochester, NY.
2021
Decision to initiate new growth strategy by investing in ISO 5 / BSL-2.
2024
Completed validation and commissioning of new development and clinical facility enabling the scale-up of LyoPastille®.
Successfully completed pre-clinical animal trials of buccal Naloxone using OFD’s LyoPastille.
